Age as of January 1st Academic Language
17 Obtained at least a C6 at GCE ‘N’ Level in any 3 subjects or equivalent. Obtained at least a C5 in GCE ‘N’ Level Chinese and Obtained at least a D7 in GCE ‘N’ Level English or Pass in Uwing International School English/Chinese test.

Module Details


This program prepares anyone who wants understanding more about the pervasive genetic learning disorders that affect some 2% of the world population and its relevant treatment.

Module 1: Understanding the Origin & the Changing Definition of Autism

Learning objective: To understand the historical origin, development and the changing definition of autism or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) from the Age of Antiquity to the New Millennium of the 21st Century AD. Learners are introduced to the concept of autism or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) began from the Age of Antiquity to the New Millennium of the 21st Century AD. They will also learn about the changing definition of the condition and what it is acceptable today.

Module 2: Allopathic, Complementary & Alternative Treatments for Autism

Learning objective: To be informed of the different autism treatment options available and what are and are not evidence-based or scientifically proven approaches. Learners are introduced to the different categories of autism treatment – allopathic, complementary and alternative. They will evaluate each of the autism treatment approaches based on a set of criteria to decide whether it is effective and appropriate for application.

Module 3: Autism Diagnostic Assessment, Evaluation & Profiling

Learning objective: To introduce the three levels of autism diagnostic assessment and how to carry out the evaluation and profiling of the assessment results

Module 4: Introduction to Autism Treatment & Individualized Education Planning (IEP)

Learning objective: To write an individualized education plan for a client with autism and follow the procedure of planning an autism treatment based on one to three selected autism treatment approaches.

Module 5: Sensory Processing Challenges in Autism & Sensory Profile

Learning objective: To know and understand the sensory processing challenges in autism and how to use the Sensory Profile to find out these challenges in order to plan an appropriate treatment.

Module 6: Verbal Behavioral Challenges & Literacy Development in Autism

Learning objective: To know and understand the verbal behavioral challenges in autism and how these problems impact on the literacy development.

Module 7: Prosocial & Social Skills and Socialization in Autism

Learning objective: To know and understand what prosocial and social skills are and how deficits in these skills can affect the social interaction between an individual with autism and the people around him/her.

Module 8: Imagination Deficit, Creativity & Systemizing Abilities in Autism

Learning objective: To know and understand the different types of imagination, how they are associated with creativity and how systemizing abilities observed in or displayed by individuals with high-functioning autism as well as those who are autistic savants. Learners will learn about the different types of imagination and how imagination deficits in individuals with autism that may result in aphantasia and hypophantasia, and for some, hyperphantasia. Underlining the imagining process is systemizing – i.e., the drive to analyze or construct systems – from where talent in autism comes in many different forms.
